so here we go at the start of 2025. This walk will very much blow the cobwebs off of us and I'm sure the festive food and beer will certainly get the calf's working. we have an added person this week. Sam is joining us :)
Todays Route was a soft one. more of a stroll through the grounds of Chatsworth at a total distance of 7.5km and only 135m of elevation. Also, during the Xmas break I managed to buy a new drone! so we have some added excitement during todays walk. So the route was planned to get a amazing video from it..... which didnt go very well at all.

We decided to start our route in the Baslow centre car park which is North of the grounds. The public footpath at the far side of the car park lead us by the side of a meandering river leading into the grounds.... and there it was, a huge sign saying "no drones permitted" this really annoyed me as there are so many other places we could've headed today. and so the drone stayed inside the backpack.
I didnt dwell on the matter too much s we entered into the ground and watched deer grazing and leaping on the vast lawns before us, at this point Chatsworth house is in the background, quite a relaxing place to be walking..... if you didnt have 3.5 load on your back.

Before long we got to Queen Marys Bower and turned left upto the house. at this point you can see the whole of Chatsworth house and its such a sight to behold. Every time I visit I'm amazed at the architecture and grandness of the building. Its clear why it is referred to as the Buckingham palace of the North.
We walked up hill & by the side of Chatsworth stables, up the hill behined the complex. this is pretty much where all of the elevation gain is along the route. despite there only being 130m of elevation. It all came at once in a really short distance. i was out of breath before no time and thankfully, out of hill to walk up. at this point the most amazing view is apparent between the trees looking back down to Chatsworth and the rest of the peak district. This short piece of uphill walking certainly delivers in terms of views.
After 10 minutes of walking North, we came across the shooting tower. Its hard to conceive that this tower was built with the sole purpose of shooting due to such shear scale of the building. Several cannons were also prominently placed overlooking the Chatsworth grounds. we decided to sit down at this point, eat some food and take is the beautiful views.
Following lunch we continued to walk North along the hill line which steadily descended back to grounds level and I also noticed wasn't as busy. We came across hardly no people during this section which I loved!
Not before long we was back down to Chatsworth Lawns and strolling back out of the gates leading to Baslow. A fine day all round :)
